Case Study: Eagle Mountain Volleyball, Fort Worth, Texas

When the time arrived to resurface the five indoor volleyball courts at Eagle Mountain Volleyball at Alliance Sportsplex in Fort Worth, Texas, owner and director Krista McCormick wanted a surface that would meet the demands of one of the most competitive clubs in USA Volleyball’s North Texas Region.

“We are 100 percent volleyball — all volleyball, all the time,” she says. “We needed a flooring surface that would keep our athletes safe as well as meet the needs of our coaches from being on their feet all day.”

Those two priorities prompted McCormick to turn to Tarkett Sports, and she chose the company’s Omnisports Multi-Use vinyl flooring system for her 25,000-square-foot facility.

As Tarkett’s most popular multi-use gym flooring, the surface offers Class 2 shock absorption to meet the ASTM F2772 standard, and it boasts a high moisture tolerance.

At Eagle Mountain Volleyball, the embossed Omnisports Multi-Use surface replaced a floating yet stiff and unforgiving wood floor that not only had mildew issues and demanded heavy maintenance because of buckling but also caused recurring knee injuries in players with patella tendinitis.

“We noticed an immediate improvement: minimal complaints from our jumpers,” McCormick says. “[And] our coaches noticed a huge improvement after standing on the floor all day.”

The reliably slip-resistant Omnisports Multi-Use surface is laid directly over concrete and creates the same performance value no matter where players are positioned on the floor, and its softer feel is markedly different from wood courts. Even McCormick, who often suffered from hip or knee pain after being on her feet all day long at the facility, notices relief on a daily basis.

Maintenance is simple, too. Dust mopping between games ensures cleanliness, and spills don’t soak into the court like they do on wood. A quick wipe, and the surface is as good as new. Also  unlike wood, Omnisports surfaces do not need screened and recoated on an annual basis to remove scratches. That cost savings alone can be as much as 50 cents per square foot.

“It still looks as beautiful today as the day we installed it [in 2017],” McCormick says of her Tarkett surface. “We would absolutely consider another Tarkett floor in the future or should we open an additional facility. We are absolutely in love with this product.”
