Sports Flooring Performance Properties

Are You Using North America’s Sports Flooring Standard?

Athletic flooring is distinct from all other flooring types. More than just foot traffic, a sports surface must accommodate running, jumping, pivoting, dribbling, and other physical activities. There are European criteria for evaluating sports floors such as EN 14904 and the discontinued DIN 18032-2 standard. However, ASTM F2772 is designed specifically for North American sports activities and provides a simple platform for making athletic flooring decisions. It defines a safe and suitable sports floor through four key measurements: force reduction, surface finish effect, ball rebound, and vertical deformation. For some, this includes a place for sports activities, such as basketball and volleyball, in addition to non-sporting events. The key to success if finding a floor that can do both, with as little maintenance and transition time as possible. With the versatility to host sporting events, dinners, and other events, Hahira United Methodist Church chose Omnisports to help create a foundation for fellowship in their new family life center. Listen to Administrative Assistant Kathy Cooper explain how Omnisports meets the needs of the Church and its mission.
